1961 AJS Model 14 250cc
Priced at SOLD. According to factory records held by the AJS & Matchless Owners Club this particular Lightweight 250cc was dispatched from the factory on the 14th of December 1960. The bike has come to us from the last Essex owner who purchased it in 1999. There is a book of photographs, showing the bike as a rough rolling chassis with tinware shown laid out on the ground, then showing the machine all stripped down & finally showing the AJS refurbished, going back together & all completed. Unfortunately the photographs aren't dated, however there are past MOT certificates & old road tax discs from 2000/2001 for a number of years (2015 for road tax discs & 2018 for MOT certificates), indicating that the AJS was in regular use. The motorcycle has now garnered a well used patina, further evidence of a lot of use. There are two certificates from the Club giving further information (see below). Has a DVLA V5C registration document, is registered for free road tax under the 'Historic Vehicle' class & has the benefit of being MOT exempt.
NOTE: Our electrical technician has been working on the faulty charging system. The old Wipac alternator windings had good output but were shorting out down to earth, so a new set of Lucas 12 volt windings has been fitted. So the whole electrical system is now 12 volts with a new electronic regulator/rectifier control box.
